Alaska Air Group’s shares climbed 3.34 percent to end the day at $61.87. Recently, Alaska Air announced together with Lonely Whale, the initiative of ditching plastic straws and swap it with sustainable alternatives in its airport lounges and on all domestic and international commercial flights starting July 16, 2018. “Whether providing fantastic service or leading in sustainability, caring about people and communities is in our DNA,” said Diana Birkett Rakow, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of external relations. “Without a doubt, we fly to some of the most beautiful places on earth, including many communities that depend on healthy oceans. We’re thrilled to partner with Lonely Whale to take this next step in our sustainability journey, and help keep the places we live and fly beautiful for years to come. It’s especially appropriate now as ending plastic pollution was the theme for Earth Day this year.” This is one of the airline’s ongoing ambitions to lessen its flight waste per passenger by 70 percent by 2020.

Shares of Southwest Airlines rose 3.22 percent on Friday at $52.86 on a volume of 9,292,317 shares traded. In the past week, Southwest Airlines announced its newest product onboard- iHeartRadio. iHeartRadio is to bring free all-in-one digital music and live streaming radio service to Customers as the exclusive music offering within the onboard entertainment portal on Southwest flights. “Our Customers and Employees are passionate about music,” said Ryan Green, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Southwest Airlines. “And for Southwest, music is a part of a larger story—it’s an ongoing investment in enhancing our Customers’ travel experiences. Through this partnership with iHeartRadio, we will create the soundtrack to our Customers’ journeys as we connect them to what is important in their lives.”
