UK Airport Car Parks Warns Government Spending Review Could Close Down Independent Travel Agents

The latest spending review from George Osborne has found that 2.6 million families will be worse off each year. UK Airport Car Parks, a leading airport car parking company has warned the latest cuts in people’s income could damage the tourism industry and cost jobs.

The school holiday ban has already caused problems and job losses for the UK tourism industry, and it has also seen independent travel agents suffer. With the high prices of holidays during the summer time, fewer families can afford to fly abroad. Now, with the news that 2.6 families will be worse off by £1,600 a year, some smaller travel agents are worried it could result in more families being unable to afford a family holiday.

UK Airport Car Parks, who help holidaymakers save money on their airport parking needs through their comparison tool, has spoken to twenty independent travel agents who are concerned for their future. One of those travel agents has revealed if the spending review results in fewer customers coming through the door then they would have to close with the loss of four jobs. Nine other travel agents said they could also be forced to close while four travel agents said they might have to lay off staff if their business is affected by the spending review.

Chris Fryer from UK Airport Car Parks said: “It seems George Osborne has not thought how the spending review would affect the business world. It could result in only the big high street travel agents surviving will families having less money to spend.”

The Airport car-parking expert has been campaigning for the government to change the law on taking children out of school during term time for a holiday. They now feel with the latest cuts to working class income, the time is right to drop the school ban.
