Universal Health Coverage Being Proposed to Dallas Health Insurance Consumers.
Congress has unanimously agreed to review universal healthcare coverage legislation. Health insurance in Dallas (and nationwide) currently provides the federal-assisted Affordable Care Act to consumers.

Could health insurance in Dallas, TX ever offer universal coverage? If congressman Keith Ellison, a progressive from Minnesota has his way, it’s an issue of when rather than if.
This month Ellison assumed the role as the leading sponsor of legislation to establish a Medicare-type healthcare system that covers all 323 million Americans. The previous sponsor of this legislation was congressman John Conyers who resigned in 2017. Ellison received a unanimous consent by members of the House of Representatives to take charge of the single-payer healthcare bill, titled the Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act.
Ellison stated, “The United States is the outlier among large industrial countries…everybody else has decided that healthcare is a right and they’re working to make sure that it is. We as a nation need to move in that direction for the welfare of our people.”
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), or commonly known as Obamacare, was passed into law in 2010 as an alternative to universal healthcare coverage. Dallas health insurance does not provide an exchange that is state-based. Residents are required to use the federal-run website HealthCare.gov. Consumers can also utilize an independent agent, broker site or company to enroll directly into Obamacare and still receive financial assistance the law provides.
Polling shows the a plurality of Americans support a universal, or single-payer, system of healthcare. Sen. Bernie Sanders has already introduced a similar bill called Medicare for All. Numerous colleagues in including senators Kamala Harris of California, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Cory Booker of New Jersey have come out in support of the proposal.
According to Dallas health insurance brokers like Rick Thornton, this could be a serious healthcare option in the near future. “My clients are continually expressing to me their anxiety about rising healthcare costs and how it’s impacting their budget. I’m not sure when it will occur but I believe universal coverage is the ultimate solution,” he says. Currently, premiums and deductibles have begun to increase as some cities have fewer insurance providers offering plans.
