USA Business Directories Expert Urges Consumers to Leave Local Reviews
A USA business directories expert stresses the importance for consumers to leave online reviews.

According to a study conducted by Bright Local last year, 84 percent of consumers say that they trust online reviews as much as they would trust a personal recommendation from a friend or family. That’s why so many local business owners make it a habit to ask customers to leave reviews for them on USA business directories. But another aspect of that study has one local business directory undertaking an educational campaign aimed at consumers about local reviews.
“Most people understand that online reviews are an important part of building a local business’ reputation in a community, but the study sheds even further light on the topic,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal, one of the USA business directories that use GEO location technology to match the results visitors see to their own location. “For example, the study also says that 73 percent of those consumers surveyed believe that reviews more than 3 months old are just not relevant any longer.”
In other words, it’s necessary for local business owners to continue to ask for online reviews on a regular basis. Unfortunately, that’s not the way it works for many local businesses.
“It can be difficult for local shop owners to organically get online reviews,” he says, “but the study sheds some light on the solution. It says that if local business owners simply asked their customers to leave reviews on local directories, 7 out of 10 of them will.”
That’s right, it seems that in order to reap the benefits of online reviews, small and local shops only need to ask their customers.
“But in addition to talking to local business owners about the importance of asking for reviews, I also want to help get the word out to consumers about their important role in the success of the local shops in their community.”
He says that he believes if consumers understood how much of a difference they could make by leaving reviews on USA business directories, they would do it more often. Business owners rely on these consumers to help get the word out about their shops, and those businesses that don’t have a lot of reviews will miss out on future business.
“If you have an opinion about a business in your community—whether it’s good or bad—you owe it to your neighbors to leave a review. If you don’t, a couple of things could happen. First, the business could suffer financially because they don’t have enough reviews. That’s because other people may not be willing to try a business that others haven’t left reviews for.”
He says that in addition to that, consumers may get the short end of the stick by experiencing bad customer service or other quality issues because people who had experienced the same thing failed to leave a review.
“Keep in mind that good reviews are important, too. In fact, most studies show that consumers don’t like to do business with shops that don’t have any recent, good reviews. So let others in your community know when you’ve had a good experience at a local shop.”
