Valmie Resources (VMRI) Responds to FAA Announcement of Program to Test UAV’s for Commercial Uses

HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / May 6, 2015 / The president and key staff of Valmie Resources Inc. (OTCMKTS: VMRI) were in attendance as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced a landmark collaboration with CNN and others to help the agency determine how it can safely expand unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations in the U.S.

The program, which the FAA is calling “Pathfinder,” was announced during a panel session at the AUVSI Unmanned Systems 2015 Conference in Atlanta, the nation’s largest UAV conference. Under the program, the FAA will partner with CNN to explore using drones for newsgathering in urban settings within operator line of sight. Two other program participants, PrecisionHawk and BNSF Railway, will advance research around UAV’s and extended visual line of sight operations in rural areas.

“Valmie applauds the FAA for responding to thousands of UAV operators and enthusiasts who challenged the proposed set of rules for commercial drone flights,” said Gerald B. Hammack, President and CEO of Valmie. “Pathfinder begins to lay the groundwork for conducting critical operations such as precision agriculture, search and rescue and other humanitarian applications. We are optimistic the FAA will consider expanding this program beyond three companies and streamlining the application process so progress can continue at a rapid pace.”

The announcement begins to address some of the loudest criticisms from among more than 4,000 public comments that came from drone operators and advocates after the FAA released its proposed set of rules for commercial drone operations in February. Some of these comments addressed the need to be allowed to safely conduct operations beyond visual line of sight.

“One of the things we have been very focused on . . .is a staged implementation,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, addressing the FAA’s timetable for setting rules for commercial drone use, stating the agency will “test a little, learn a little, try a little,” as it explores the challenges of integrating commercial drones into the airspace.
