Van Line Network Donates $69K to Provide Pony Rides at a Non-Profit Resort for Children with Critical Illnesses and their Families
Wheaton | Bekins provides key attraction to 7,971 families visiting Give Kids The World Village in 2018
INDIANAPOLIS, IN / ACCESSWIRE / January 28, 2018 Wheaton World Wide Moving | Bekins Van Lines became a partner of Give Kids The World (GKTW) in 2000 and this week confirmed that the van line and its agents gave nearly 8,000 families the opportunity for pony rides through its Keaton’s Korral attraction in 2018. Named after Keaton White, a Give Kids The World visitor who spoke at the van line’s 2003 partnership conference, Keaton’s Korral gives children, regardless of their abilities, the chance to ride horses and ponies during their cost-free Central Florida vacations.
”Hearing Keaton speak, it touched your soul to know how much he’d been through and what Give Kids The World Village meant to him and his family,” said Stephen F. Burns, Wheaton | Bekins Chairman of the Board.
GKTW Village is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida where children with critical illnesses and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free vacations. Since the resort opened its doors in 1986, 4,098 Hoosier families have had their child’s Wishes granted at the nonprofit resort, and 166,792 Wish families have visited in total.
Aside from corporate gifts, Wheaton | Bekins raises money for Keaton’s Korral through employee birthday donations, a Giving Tuesday online fundraising drive and events at our annual partnership conference, such as a dunk tank, where exhibitors and agents dunked members of the Wheaton | Bekins executive leadership team, and a silent auction, in which attendees purchased donated items such as a weekend stay at the conference event location, the Hotel del Coronado.
Wheaton agents and Bekins agents are a big part of the equation when it comes to donations to Keaton’s Korral, with many agents hosting golf outings throughout the year and individuals from the network becoming recurring monthly donors. In 2019, Wheaton | Bekins plans to launch pony ride fundraisers, where members of the community can bring their children to ride ponies and horses for a donation to GKTW. The first will happen in the Indianapolis area in April.
”I am incredibly proud to work with so many people in our network who give their resources to help these families,” said Mark Kirschner, Wheaton | Bekins CEO.
