Vein Health Clinic Adds New Tool to Varicose Vein Treatment Arsenal

Prominent venous disease treatment facility, Vein Health Clinic has added a new tool to its medical arsenal. Founder Dr. Peter Paraskevas recently announced the inclusion of AccuVein technology into the clinic’s vein therapy regimen. The AccuVein device is being touted by medical experts for its capacity to improve treatment accuracy as well as aid in post-procedure assessments.

Dr. Paraskevas elaborated, “AccuVein allows us to better see the veins to be treated even in cases where they’re invisible to the naked eye; as such, the device has applications in the full spectrum of varicose veins treatments we provide. We use it for mapping purposes in preparation for ambulatory phlebectomies, to highlight blood vessels during transdermal laser therapy and to track the progress of sclerosant solutions in sclerotherapy to name a few. With AccuVein, we’re also able to give patients a bit of a more thorough glimpse into the procedures we perform for them.”

AccuVein is based on infrared light. Skin reflects this type of light while hemoglobin in the blood absorbs it; as a result, veins stand out distinctly from surrounding tissue when exposed to infrared. Developers note the device offers optimum accuracy within less than 40 microns, or smaller than the width of a human hair. AccuVein is non-invasive, does not come into contact with the skin and is impervious to movement.

Originally geared toward procedures involving venipuncture, such as IV insertion, AccuVein was developed as a means to reduce human error. By simplifying the process of locating veins suitable for administering fluids, medications or dyes and performing blood draws, the device aided in curtailing pain for patients with difficult venous access as well as lowering costs per procedure for medical facilities. From that point, AccuVein was introduced to the field of vascular treatment.

Concluded Dr. Paraskevas, “Adding AccuVein to our range of treatments is simply another step in our efforts to offer patients the latest and most effective non-invasive alternatives in vein therapy. The device aids us in our goals of eliminating pain, treating its underlying cause and generating the best possible aesthetic results for our patients. We’re pleased to bring this service to our patients and will continue to introduce more state-of-the-art options as new developments arise.”
