Charleston, SC, February 24, 2017 — The Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Charleston held its monthly meeting on February 9, where Vertical Holdings president and CEO Herbert L. Drayton III, spoke about introducing and recruiting minorities into tech fields.

The AITP began as the Machine Accountants Association (MAA) in the 1950s, as a professional group where members could collaborate and share ideas regarding industry best practices and growth strategies. It has evolved to meet the changing standards and tools of workplace technologies. Each month members congregate to exchange information on various subjects of concern within the IT industry. This February, Vertical Holdings president Herbert L. Drayton III, spoke in front of area members on a variety of topics, including keeping technical staff engaged at their jobs and recruiting minorities into STEM fields.

“It’s obviously important to us to try and develop talent from all regions, groups, and genders because we find value in alternative methods of problem solving,” says Drayton. “I wanted to highlight those ways of engagement, hiring and developing our talent so that we can look to a future that is very much robust with minorities in tech fields.”

Drayton spoke on other topics, including how to keep people focused and creative when their daily tasks seem routine or mundane. He believes this, along with inviting minorities and women to the table, is imperative in attracting and retaining talent that will benefit an organization and position it for the future.

Drayton oversees the strategic direction of the Charleston and Memphis-based portfolio of services and software companies. With more than 10,000 clients in 27 states, Vertical Holdings has core business operations in medicine, professional and technical training, B2B and B2C SaaS platforms, and managed services.
