Victims of E-Cigarette Explosions Sustain Severe Injuries As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase

June 06, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on yet another e-cig explosion resulting in injury and shock for the user. An NBC 4 New York news release covers the story of a Richmond Hill, Queens resident, who was carrying an electronic cigarette in her pocket. While parking her car, the e-cigarette allegedly exploded with force. The device was then launched into her dashboard. The e-cig, which contained a lithium-ion battery, reminded the victim of a firecracker when it exploded. The sudden explosion shocked the woman who was fortunate that she was nearly parked at the time and not driving at full speed when she may have sustained injuries even more severe.

Propelled through her jeans and removing the skin on her knee, the e-cigarette severely burned her leg, she reported. A typical e-cigarette user, hers is one of many emerging reports of electronic cigarette battery explosions with resulting damage and injury. Many events, like hers, involve an e-cigarette stored in a pocket of the victim’s clothing. Both the propulsion of the device and emerging flames can cause injuries and burns to the person, and damage to property nearby.

In February, a CNN news release covered another leg injury, this time to a Kentucky man whose e-cigarette exploded in his pocket while at a gas station, resulting in severe burns to his right thigh. Flames covered his lower body, but this victim had a stroke of good fortune. When his explosion caught the attention of an employee at the station, the employee says that he promptly responded and put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. His quick action likely saved the Kentucky man from serious harm which could even have cost him his life.
