Vietnam Veteran Severely Injured By E-Cigarette Explosion, Stems Potential E-Cig Explosion Lawsuit Cases
June 18, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on another news story of an e-cigarette explosion that spread flames and caused significant property damage and injuries. This user’s story was reported by ABC News, which detailed the experience of a Vietnam veteran from Niceville, Florida whose e-cigarette allegedly exploded while it was in his mouth. He reports that the explosion resulted in severe burns, loss of his teeth and partial loss of his tongue, as well as damages to his house from the flames. His neighbor reported that the man’s wife said she heard the explosion from another room in the house. The ABC news report indicates that district fire department chief attended to the emergency call, and his evaluation of the situation placed the source of the incident as a defect in the lithium-ion battery in the electronic cigarette. He compared the incident to the Florida resident having a bottle rocket ignite in his mouth.
As the popularity of e-cigarettes increases, there has also been an increase in the number of reported explosions connected to the devices. Several of these reports involve serious injuries to the user and substantial damage to property. The damages to one woman’s home after an e-cigarette exploded were reportedly in excess of one hundred thousand dollars. These reports and others are catching the attention of e-cigarette users and leading them to question the safety of these devices as an alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes.
