Walker County Crane Accident, Sparks Comments From Construction Accident Lawyer
June 18, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman commented on a recent development in Walker County, Alabama that has left one construction worker dead after a crane collapse. Attorney Moverman sends his condolences to the family of the fallen victim and hopes that this accident will serve as yet another example to regulators that construction safety rules and regulations must be revised.
As indicated in a local report from ABC3340.com, there was a fatal crane accident that occurred on a Highway 269 bridge construction site. The accident occurred on June 13th in the early morning and resulted in the death of one construction worker. The Walker County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of the accident and discovered an overturned crane on top of a local crane operator. Local news outlets are working to gather more information, however, a local coroner told ABC3340 that “The crane operator jumped out when the crane started shifting, and the crane landed on top of him.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that the total number of fatal work injuries from the calendar year of 2014, was 5 percent higher than the previous total from 2013. BLS also claims that contact with objects and equipment represented 15 percent of all fatal occupational injuries in 2014.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) lists being struck by an object or being caught between an object/equipment as the third and fourth leading causes of construction worker death in 2014. Both causes are included in construction’s ‘Fatal Four’ which is the top 4 causes of death to construction workers. In addition to contact with objects and equipment, slips trips, and falls, are also included in the ‘Fatal Four,’ as well as deaths from electrocutions.
