West Virginia Native Suffers Fatal Injuries From Ditch Collapse At Worksite, Induces Response From Personal Injury Lawyer
July 27, 2016 – – Attorney Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com released a statement related to the death of a 38-year-old construction worker who was pronounced dead after a ditch collapsed and buried him. Moverman extends condolences to the family of the deceased man.
As per a report by the Marietta Times, the accident happened on June 13th at the site of the former Decondor Coal Site while installation of a water treatment system was underway in Preston County. The deceased was from Strange Creek located in the northern part of West Virginia. The project he was working on was under the purview of the DEP’s Office of Special Reclamation and was part of a bond reclamation project.
Attorney Moverman is hopeful that as a result of this unfortunate accident that federal regulators will take heed and begin to strengthen the nation’s rules and regulations as they relate to the construction industry. He also noted that the number of construction accidents has increased significantly with no sign of abating.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency tasked with the oversight of nearly 130 million US workers to ensure their health and safety while on the job. The agency is greatly understaffed with just 2,200 inspectors who each are responsible for the oversight of 59,000 workers.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), has provided information regarding the number of on-the-job fatalities in 2014. During that year 4,281 workers died while on the job. Of this number of fatalities, 899 of them were construction workers which equates to 20 percent of the total number of 2014 work-related deaths.
Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman have been representing victims of construction accidents for years. In one case, Attorney Thomas Moverman won a victim $2.6 million for a worker who injured his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm has successfully obtained millions in settlements for those victims and strongly believes in fighting for the compensation victims need and deserve. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured in a construction accident and qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
