Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) involves taking a small amount of the patient’s own blood and spinning it in a centrifuge in order to separate the plasma from other components of blood.

When PRP is injected into the injured site, the patient experiences a healing effect after a few weeks. In the case where the heel cord of an athlete has been torn completely, this may need surgery to restore the tendon. To facilitate healing, PRP may be used after the surgery.
