Widow Files AndroGel Lawsuit Claiming It Caused Husband’s Heart Attack And Death

September 04, 2015 – – Banville Law reports on yet another addition to the lawsuits currently filed against AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories due to use of AndroGel, a popular testosterone replacement therapy medication.

This court case was filed in the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois under case number 2015L008060. It involves a plaintiff who alleges that she is now a widow because her husband suffered an adverse event after being prescribed the drug AndroGel for symptoms associated with low testosterone.

In her complaint, the widow alleges that the defendants, which in this case include AbbVie Inc. & AbbVie Products, Abbott Laboratories, Besins Healthcare & Besins Healthcare Inc, United Pharmaceuticals, Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., and Solvay, failed to warn her husband and her of the associated risks of taking AndroGel.

Specifically, the lawsuit states: “the defendants misrepresented that TRT is a safe and effective treatment for hypogonadism and a condition they refer to as ‘low T’ or ‘low testosterone’ when, in fact, the drug causes serious medical problems, including life-threatening cardiac events, strokes, and thromboembolic events.”

The plaintiff’s late husband was prescribed TRT medications in September of 2011, and continued to take the recommended doses until passing away from a heart attack or several attacks on August 7th of 2013. The lawsuit alleges that the medication “took its toll on [his] cardio-vascular system,” eventually causing the heart issues, and ultimately his death.

According to specifics within the plaintiff’s claim, she alleges company negligence, negligent product representation, and fraud, as well as design defect, breach of implied and express warranties, and wrongful death. She is seeking compensation for loss of earnings and restitution, as well as injunctive relief, attorney and court fees, and unspecified damages.

This lawsuit accompanies more than 2,000 others recently filed, all connected by common allegations that low testosterone therapy caused serious injury, hospitalizations, and death through heart attacks and stroke. Currently, a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL 2454) is pending in the US District Court for the Northern Illinois District which is being overseen by Judge Matthew F. Kennelly.

As knowledge of the lawsuits and low testosterone medication implications spread, additional suits are filed daily. Laurence Banville, Esq. of Banville Law is currently working to assist individuals and their families who have questions or connections to the pending litigation. “If you believe that you or your loved ones have suffered a serious injury after using testosterone replacement therapy medications, you may have grounds for a lawsuit,” he stated.
