Already known for featuring several small batch Santa Barbara wineries, this boutique wine of the month club now partners with its first Napa based vineyard.

As they prepare for their second year of operations, Wine Club World has announced that their partnership vineyard for the month of August will take them a little farther north. They recently agreed to work with the family owned Fore Family Vineyards of Napa Valley as the supplier for their August membership wine selections.

“There are many factors that go into determining which vineyards we work with,” said Jennifer Finnell, co-owner and founder of the boutique wine of the month club based in Santa Barbara. “One of those factors is responding to the wishes and suggestions of our clients. Many who were new to the wines of the Santa Barbara wineries were asking for wines from comparable wineries in Napa so they could compare and contrast the styles.”

Ask and ye shall receive. After examining several different wineries that fit the initial criteria that she and her partners look for, it was not only the wines themselves that won them over, but also the commitment that the Fore family has to promoting sustainable winemaking.

“The general philosophy of Fore Family Vineyards is to grow the finest wine grapes possible using sustainable techniques and values acknowledging that we are transient stewards of the land,” said Jim Fore, owner and founder of Fore Family Vineyards, along with his wife Diane, daughter Melissa and son Eric, in a recent statement about how they approach the business of winemaking. Shunning chemical pesticides, they opt for a more natural process that allows the ground to remain fertile for generations to come.

Another factor that Wine Club World took into consideration when deciding on their new partnership was the fact that they have only been producing wine commercially for less than three decades. “We especially like to focus on small, start-up wineries that may be producing exceptional wines but do not have the financial resources to compete against larger wineries,” Finnell said. “These wines are exceptional, and it is surprising to discover such quality in such a young vineyard.”

Finnell and her partners – entrepreneur Nathan Willingham, businessman Ken Sorenson and 30-year wine veteran Stewart Fries – visit each of the prospective partner vineyards before making a decision, and they were thrilled to discover that the Fore family does not just talk the talk, but they walk the walk as well.

“This is truly a family level enterprise,” Finnell said, “and the type of vineyard we are pleased to be working with.” Because of an expected increase in membership and demand based on this new partnership, Finnell said she and members of the family were still working out which of the selections will be offered for each of the four separate membership levels, but she expects that announcement to be made shortly. In the meantime, she fully admits to feeling the thrill of being one of the first people from outside Napa to taste these wines. “People will look back on the day they first tasted these wines as a turning point,” she declared.
