Benefits of the Deal
This initiative offers Orange Group the chance to expand its network in Europe, Africa, and the Middle-East, with reduced operational complexity and increased capacity using the new generation of routers on its OTI service. The resulting increase in network efficiency will improve service for Orange customers and manage the exponential increase in Internet traffic across the network.
The Cisco® NCS first-to-market advantage offered Orange the means to execute its plans to prepare for 400G speeds. The Cisco® NCS offers many other advantages, including a reduction in the number of chassis to be managed, high port density, high performance forwarding, low jitter, and the lowest power consumption in terms of Gigabits/sec.
Cisco NCS 5500 Leverages the Industry-Leading IOS XR Operating System
The Network Convergence System 5500 Series is a family of routing platforms, including fixed and modular chassis. The platform offers high port density, high performance forwarding, low jitter, and the lowest power consumption per Gigabits/sec at a very cost-effective price point. NCS 5500 is designed to efficiently scale across Data Centers, Large Enterprise, Web, Service Provider WAN, and Aggregation Networks. It leverages the industry-leading IOS XR Operating System, offering market-leading software capabilities, including model-driven telemetry that provides deep insights into the real-time operation of the network; model-driven programmability and enhanced automation that offers extreme flexibility and speed to adapt to any operational environment; and application hosting that turns networking devices into a platform on top of which service providers can use their own tools and utilities.
Collaboration will Enable Orange to Reap Business Benefits of a Highly Reliable and Resilient Platform
Commenting on the collaboration, Sumeet Arora, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Service Provider Business, Cisco, mentioned that with Cisco NCS, Orange can reap the business benefits of a highly reliable and resilient platform to support its networking goals. Arora stated that Orange is now in a position to deliver higher bandwidth and a range of new functions and services that will give it more agility to innovate and compete.
Cisco and Samsung Teamed with Orange for First Multi-Vendor 5G Fixed Wireless Trial in Europe
In February 2018, Orange, Samsung Electronics, and Cisco collaborated on a 5G millimeter wave trial set to begin in the second half of 2018, across multiple homes in Romania. The trial marked Orange as the first operator to conduct a multi-vendor 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) customer trial in Europe.
