Woman Files Talcum Powder Lawsuit On Behalf Of Grandmother
November 22, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a plaintiff who filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson on behalf of her grandmother.
Consumer Advocacy News detailed the accounts of two women who have filed talcum powder cases after loved ones were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. One woman, who filed on behalf of her grandmother claims that her grandmother passed away at the age of 35 after having used Johnson & Johnson baby powder for an extended time. She and her family believe that her grandmother developed ovarian cancer as a direct result of using the powders, given the young age at which the disease developed.
Lawsuits against the pharmaceutical giant now total near 2,000. These cases all claim that the company marketed and sold products knowing that they were linked to cancer. These cases began in 2009 with a woman from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and have since spurred thousands of others. Johnson and Johnson has adamantly denied claims that their products cause cancer and has not issued any warnings about them as a result.
Over the past 40 years, numerous studies have been done on the alleged link between talcum powder and cancer. While some studies have found a connection, others have found none. Despite the split in the evidence, three juries have found that a link does exist and have awarded plaintiffs with millions in compensation. Meanwhile, two similar cases were thrown out in New Jersey by a judge who stated that there was a lack of scientific evidence to support the plaintiffs’ claims.
