Women’s Addiction Treatment Centre Opens In Vancouver
March 22, 2016 – – Sagewood Recovery Women’s Centre has announced the opening of their facility in Vancouver, BC. The women-only private residential facility uses forward-thinking, evidenced based and practical models to restore wholeness and rebuild the lives of women suffering from addiction.
Sagewood Recovery Women’s Centre in B.C. uses Dr. Stephanie Covington’s innovative gender-responsive approach to address the unique treatment needs of women. The facility states that not all treatment centres are designed to specifically help women to overcome their addictions, and that by focusing on women only, they can better serve those who have an addiction.
Laura Brodowski, a spokesperson for the facility says, “Sagewood Recovery was born out of the realization that many so-called treatment centres were simply hiring support workers to facilitate a 12 Step model for their clients, taking clients to 12 step meetings and providing very little clinically-proven methods or models to address the core issues of addiction. At the same time, these centres were claiming to use gender-responsive models.”
Using Dr. Covington’s Women’s Integrated Treatment model (WIT), Sagewood offers comprehensive gender-responsive, trauma-informed, holistic services for women with co-occurring disorders. Research findings indicate less substance use (relapse), less depression, and fewer trauma symptoms including anxiety, sleep disturbances, and dissociation after participation in the WIT curricula. Women who successfully complete the program are assessed at several time-points on multiple scales, including trauma symptomology, depression, and substance use before and after the program.
Sagewood Recovery is a women-only private residential treatment facility that specializes in women’s issues including cultural and societal. Their mission is to support women to return to their inner wisdom and intuition for guidance, and that they be restored to their true sense of purpose and power. Sagewood’s culture is built on personal truth, integrity, inclusivity, respect, openness and laughter. They believe that everyone deserves to be heard, honored and loved and are now open to assist women in Vancouver as well as the rest of the province of British Columbia and Alberta.
Brodowski states that anyone looking for addiction treatment can learn more by visiting the facility’s Facebook page. “We are here to help,” she says. Those interested in learning more can also visit the company’s official website or contact the facility directly for assistance.
