Xarelto Lawsuit Filed By Granddaughter After Grandmother Dies From Intracranial Bleed

January 07, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on another Xarelto lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of Louisiana by a Louisiana resident under case number 2:15-cv-05874. The suit was filed on November 12th of 2015, and was filed against Xarelto manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (a subdivision of the well-known Johnson & Johnson). The plaintiff in this case is the granddaughter, and a woman who recently lost her grandmother due to a brain bleed that she alleges was caused by the blood thinning drug.

Details found within the suit note that the plaintiff’s grandmother began taking Xarelto to treat her deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This condition puts patients at increased risk for blood clot formation within the leg’s deep veins. The woman began to take Xarelto as a preventative measure, as directed by a family physician.

The plaintiff states that the grandmother took the medication exactly as directed, but, within just a few months of starting the drug, she was rushed to the hospital due to an intracranial bleed. An intracranial bleed happens when bleeding occurs either around or within the brain. It can also qualify as a stroke, and is often life-threatening.

Because the blood thinner was in her system and had thinned her blood, physicians were unable to stop the woman’s brain bleed, and she died as a result of it two days later. The granddaughter blames Xarelto for the loss of her grandmother and is seeking in excess of $75,000 in damages from the drug’s manufacturers, whom she calls negligent, especially due to the fact that they released the blood thinner to market without any corresponding antidote to counter its effects should someone using it suffer an injury.

Traditional blood thinners are different from Xarelto in this way. They offer an antidote through vitamin K, so if someone is bleeding with a traditional blood thinner in their system, physicians have the ability to administer vitamin K which counteracts the blood thinner effects and allows that patient’s blood to clot.

Unfortunately, this plaintiff is not alone in her argument. Xarelto has been termed by many as ‘the most dangerous blood thinner currently on the market’. It is now the subject of over 2,800 federally filed lawsuits, which have been consolidated to form Multidistrict Litigation 2692 by the JPML.

Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to ensure that everyone who has used Xarelto and who has since suffered from medical complications will have the opportunity to look into their legal rights. It is still considered possible for additional cases to join the current MDL as these cases await trial preparations. Attorney Osborne is currently offering complimentary Xarelto consultations. Those affected may be entitled to compensation.
