Xarelto Lawsuit Filed By NJ Resident Alleges Drug Caused Almost Fatal Gastrointestinal Bleed

January 15, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit filed against Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals in relation to their blood thinning drug Xarelto. The suit was filed by a resident of New Jersey who alleges that the manufacturers have neglected to properly warn consumers about the dangerous health risks associated with the anticoagulant. The lawsuit was filed on November 23rd, 2015 under case number 2:15-cv-06264 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Lawsuits filed in federal courts across the nation concerning Xarelto now number over 2,800 cases, and have been consolidated by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to form MDL No. 2592. The lawsuits involved are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon and all name the same defendants.

In addition to these federally-filed cases, another mass tort group of more than 500 lawsuits has been formed by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All plaintiffs involved in each group of cases share similar allegations that Xarelto can cause dangerous uncontrollable bleeding episodes and serious side effects, and that manufacturers were reckless and negligent to release the blood thinner to market without a corresponding antidote for emergency situations.

As many of the plaintiffs in these lawsuits have experienced, this dangerous lack of antidote means when individuals taking Xarelto become injured and bleed, doctors will be unable to clot their blood and prevent them from losing too much; even due to a minor injury. In these instances, it is required that physicians instead use extreme, life-saving measures such as blood transfusions in an attempt to keep their patients alive.

Patients who have opted to take traditional blood thinners instead, do not encounter the same health issue, as these blood thinners offer a corresponding antidote. Patients using traditional blood thinners who injure themselves and bleed can be treated with vitamin K, which reverses the effects of the medication and allows their blood to clot. This is the reason why traditional blood thinners require special diets: to monitor vitamin K ingestion. This antidote could easily be the difference between life and death for many patients.

Details of this specific lawsuit state that after just six months of using Xarelto, the plaintiff suffered from what doctors considered to be a life-threatening gastrointestinal bleed. Due to this episode, the plaintiff says that he will have lasting health issues and medical bills. Though he is thankful to be alive, he is suffering from the aftermath.

Attorney Joseph Osborne is now working to ensure that everyone who’s health has been negatively affected by Xarelto will be offered the opportunity to explore their legal rights. These individuals could be entitled to significant compensation. Attorney Osborne is currently offering complimentary Xarelto consultations for affected individuals.
