Xarelto Lawsuit Filing Numbers Reportedly Rising In Both United States And Canada
April 26, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on Xarelto lawsuit filings, which have been regularly growing in number across the United States and Canada. Reports state that a lawsuit referencing Xarelto had been filed last February in Calgary, Canada and that another lawsuit filing is anticipated in Ontario. Plaintiffs in the U.S. have indicated that seeing the filings in Canada as well help to cement their allegations and prove that Canadian patients are also claiming that the drug can place users at increased risk for severe bleeding episodes.
On February 13, 2015, the Calgary Sun indicated that the head plaintiff in the Calgary Canadian class action lawsuit had come dangerously close to having a heart attack when she suffered from a sudden internal bleeding episode while using Xarelto. The woman’s lawsuit allegations state, “The health care professionals who were treating [her] for this hemorrhaging had considerable difficulty in stopping her bleeding.” And that, “They advised her that Xarelto was the cause of her hemorrhaging and that, unlike other anticoagulants such as warfarin, there was no way to reverse the anticoagulant effects of Xarelto.”
Xarelto gained FDA approval in 2011 in the U.S. and was released to the market without any corresponding antidote. It remained this way for several years, during which time Xarelto patients who endured even minor bleeding injuries could easily find themselves suffering from uncontrollable bleeding episodes. Due to the lack of antidote, it was very difficult for doctors to reverse the blood thinner’s effects and clot patients’ blood. Traditional blood thinners did not present patients with the same problem, as they have an available antidote through vitamin K. Patients using traditional blood thinners, therefore, who become injured and bleed, are able to be treated with vitamin K which will reverse the blood thinner’s effects and allow their blood to clot much quicker.
Reports surrounding Xarelto bleeding events show that as of last February, Health Canada (the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) had received nearly 1,100 reports of adverse health events among patients taking the blood thinner. The Xarelto class action lawsuit from Calgary refers to these reports by stating, “A dozen of those adverse events registered with Health Canada indicated that death had resulted from Xarelto.”
Plaintiffs from both Canada and the United States seem to share striking allegations against the drug and drug manufacturers, and unanimously note that if they had been made aware of the potential dangers that they now associate with the blood thinner, they would have been sure to use an alternative drug.
Attorneys across the board expect Canada and U.S. Xarelto lawsuit numbers to continue their steady growth as time goes on. In the meantime, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help other patients in the U.S. who have taken Xarelto and who feel that it has negatively impacted their well-being. Those who believe they have been affected by Xarelto could be entitled to substantial compensation, so it is important that these individuals be provided with an opportunity to investigate their legal rights completely. To better help those interested in exploring their legal options further, Attorney Osborne is offering complimentary legal consultations to qualified individuals at this time.
