Xarelto Lawsuit Numbers Now Estimated At 2,000 Cases

November 13, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on Xarelto lawsuit numbers hitting an estimated 2,000 cases. Xarelto is a new form of blood thinner, which was introduced to the market in 2011 after approval by the FDA. Because the blood thinner was marketed without a corresponding antidote, however, it has become the subject of a rising number of lawsuits alleging it to cause uncontrollable bleeding and even death.

If an individual taking Xarelto is injured and bleeds, physicians will be unable to reverse the effects of the drug and get their blood to clot. In these instances, doctors have to resort to life-saving measures such as blood transfusions. Traditional blood thinners do not have this danger. They respond to vitamin K treatments. If someone taking a traditional blood thinner is injured and bleeds, doctors administer vitamin K to counter the medicine’s effects and clot their blood.

Many of the Xarelto lawsuits filed are against manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals, whose parent company is pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Typically, the drug is administered to patients dealing with atrial fibrillation, or those recovering from hip and knee replacement surgeries.

As lawsuits against the drug continued to add up, the United States Food and Drug Administration released several warnings about its use, connecting it to uncontrollable bleeding. Additionally, a study published by the British Medical Journal indicated that there appeared to be a “twofold higher risk of bleeding with rivaroxaban [Xarelto] compared with warfarin.”

In 2014, the Journal of the American Medical Association published another study concerning Xarelto which found that treatment with the drug rivaroxaban [Xarelto] was linked to “severe, symptomatic liver injury.” This is a danger that has not been noted by manufacturers. Plaintiffs state that manufacturers have shown negligence by allowing the product on the market.

Across the United States, individuals have filed lawsuits against Xarelto both federally and through a mass tort action in Pennsylvania. At this time, federal numbers are currently said to be around 1,700 while over 300 cases have been noted in the mass tort, totalling around 2,000 lawsuits concerning the anticoagulant. This, however, is expected to be just the beginning of what is to come.

Currently, Attorney Marc Goldich is working to ensure that anyone who has experienced adverse side effects after Xarelto use has the ability to explore their legal options. He offers free consultations, and notes that these individuals may be entitled to compensation.
