Xarelto Lawsuit Numbers Surpass 3,400 Since Blood Thinner’s 2011 Release To Market

April 18, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the still increasing numbers of lawsuit filings concerning new-generation anticoagulant drug Xarelto. Lawsuit numbers have reportedly surpassed 3,400 in just five year’s time, as the drug was FDA-approved and released to market in 2011. After gaining approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, however, the agency also gave Xarelto two “black box” warnings, which are the most severe warnings possible for the agency to give short of fully pulling a drug from the market. In addition, recent news on Xarelto and manufacturers Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals have highlighted more controversies, and have noted current investigations surrounding the drug’s clinical trials and potentially recalled testing equipment by both the FDA and European Medicines Agency. These new controversies were recently detailed by the New York Times.

When first released to market, Xarelto was considered to be a revolutionary blood thinner. It was able to provide patients taking it with greater freedoms than traditional blood thinners had been able to do before, as it did not require regular monitoring by a physician, special diets, or dosage adjustments. The drug came in a one-size-fits-all, 1 pill per day dose. It was FDA approved to treat patients recovering from knee or hip replacement surgeries as well as those suffering from deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or atrial fibrillation condition.

Xarelto lawsuits have been filed by plaintiffs across the country against the drug’s manufacturers and continue to grow in number as those involved await bellwether trials which are currently scheduled for early 2017. These large lawsuit numbers have been formed into two main groups. In Eastern Louisiana, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation consolidated and transferred all Xarelto cases which were federally-filed to a single court, forming MDL number 2592. These cases are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon and reportedly number over 2,800 today. In addition to these lawsuits, another group of more than 620 Xarelto complaints have been consolidated to form a mass tort program by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At this time, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help other patients who have used Xarelto and who have suffered from adverse health events that they believe were caused by the blood thinner. Patients who believe that have been negatively affected should be given an opportunity to explore their legal rights in the matter. These individuals could be entitled to substantial compensation. To better assist those interested in learning more about their legal options, Attorney Osborne is now offering free legal consultations for qualified parties.
