Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiff Alleges Blood Thinner Was The Cause Of Husband’s Bleeding Death
March 25, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on a lawsuit which has been filed against Xarelto manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson) concerning the new-generation blood thinner. The plaintiff who filed the complaint is a resident of South Florida, and has filed her suit on behalf of her deceased husband. The widow claims that her husband passed away from sudden bleeding complications which occurred due to his use of anticoagulant drug Xarelto. She also alleges that the defendants were negligent by failing to properly warn consumers and medical experts of the dangerous bleeding risks she has come to associate with their anticoagulant.
This lawsuit was initially filed under case number 9:14-cv-80831 in Florida but has since been transferred to the Eastern District of Louisiana with thousands of others during the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation’s consolidation of federally-filed Xarelto lawsuits. These lawsuits now together make up MDL number 2592, and are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon. Today, they number over 2,800 and are joined by more than 600 others which have also been consolidated to form a mass tort program in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the Court of Common Pleas.
Further details on the lawsuit from court documents indicate that the widow indicates that her husband’s death occurred due to a sudden and fatal internal bleeding episode. Because the man had blood thinner in his system when the bleed occurred, physicians were unable to clot his blood. He suffered from this hemorrhaging for some time while doctors attempted to clot the blood without success, and ultimately passed away from blood loss. The plaintiff claims that her husband was prescribed Xarelto to treat his atrial fibrillation.
Since its 2011 approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Xarelto has received two “black-box” warnings from the agency. These warnings are the most strict warnings possible for a product to receive before being completely pulled from the market.
As the widow in this lawsuit and many other plaintiffs from across the nation await justice, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help patients who have taken Xarelto and who believe they were negatively affected by the drug.
