Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Note Allegation Similarities To Pradaxa Lawsuits, Gain Encouragement
April 28, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the resemblence of arguments in Xarelto lawsuits to that of older Pradaxa lawsuits, which has provided current plaintiffs with hope as they pursue what they believe to be justice. Xarelto lawsuit filings have mounted within the last five years, and have come to number in the thousands just as Pradaxa lawsuits did some time ago. Today, federally-filed Xarelto complaints were transferred and consolidated to a single court, forming multidistrict litigation number 2592 in Eastern Louisiana. These cases reportedly number over 2,800 at this time, and are joined by another group of more than 620 cases which were consolidated to form a mass tort program in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the Court of Common Pleas. Those closely involved in each grouping expect that these numbers will continue to grow as time moves forward.
Xarelto lawsuits consolidated in MDL 2592 are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon, and have been filed against defendants Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson) who manufacture the new-generation blood-thinning drug.
Judge Fallon has requested that involved parties prepare for a series of 4 bellwether trials to be heard by juries in early 2017 regarding the cases at hand. These bellwether trials are designed to give those involved an idea of how juries might respond to certain pieces of evidence and testimony. The plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits in the Xarelto MDL all similarly allege that the anticoagulant drug can cause sudden and dangerous bleeding events. In some cases, as reported by several plaintiffs filing suit on behalf of loved ones, these bleeding episodes have been fatal.
Pradaxa is very similar to Xarelto in that it is a new-generation blood thinner. This blood thinner, however, was manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim in October of 2010. As is the current case with Xarelto, shortly after Pradaxa’s release to market, the drug was surrounded by more than 3,500 reports of severe adverse events among patients. Over 750 of these reports involved death. Pradaxa soon became the topic of more than 4,000 lawsuits. The evening before Pradaxa trials were set to begin, however, manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim settled the lawsuits by agreeing to pay $650 million in compensation to plaintiffs.
Today, Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs say that this decision gives them additional hope as their cases more closer toward trial dates. They await potential settlement talks from Bayer and Janssen, but have not yet gotten any indications that this will take place. As those involved prepare for early 2017 bellwether trial dates, Attorney Joseph Osborne has been working to help other patients who feel that they have been negatively affected after using Xarelto. He wants to ensure that these patients will be given the opportunity to evaluate their legal rights in the matter, as they may be entitled to significant compensation. To better assist these individuals, Attorney Osborne is currently offering free Xarelto consultations.
