Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Will Hear Bellwether Trials Beginning In February Of 2017

February 25, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the dates released for the hearing of Xarelto lawsuit bellwether trials, which are currently scheduled to begin in February of 2017. The bellwether trials will consist of 4 cases chosen from the current MDL group of over 2,800. Cases in the MDL (MDL No. 2592) were consolidated by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to help streamline the legal process. They are being overseen by Judge Eldon Fallon in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Court documents have shown that the initial two bellwether trials will be held in the Eastern District of Louisiana as well, and will take place on February 6th and March 13th of 2017. The following two bellwether trials are currently scheduled to take place elsewhere on April 24th and May 30th of 2017.

Xarelto was once a very popular new-generation blood thinner, but it has now become the subject of a steadily growing number of lawsuits from across the country, filed by plaintiffs who commonly claim that the anticoagulant places users at increased risk for sudden and dangerous bleeding episodes. Plaintiffs and several studies have now linked the drug to gastrointestinal bleeding, blood clots, strokes, brain hemorrhages, and eye bleeds. In some cases, the bleeds have been fatal. Plaintiffs agree that Xarelto manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson), failed to adequately warn consumers and physicians about the potential risks linked to the drug.

The upcoming Xarelto bellwether trials are expected to help provide plaintiffs, defendants, and council with a better idea of how juries might respond to certain testimony and pieces of evidence when presented throughout the trials of the remaining cases. Many involved expect that additional cases will continue to join the MDL before the 2017 bellwether trials begin. The more than 2,800 cases consolidated in the MDL are also joined by a mass tort group of over 550 Xarelto lawsuits formed by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Attorney Joseph Osborne is currently working to help ensure that, in the meantime, anyone who has taken Xarelto and has suffered from health problems that they attribute to their use of the drug will have the opportunity to explore their legal rights in full. These individuals may be entitled to legal action and significant compensation. Attorney Osborne is currently offering free Xarelto consultations to involved individuals.
