Xarelto Lawsuit Trials To Get Underway Later This Month

April 11, 2017 – – The bellwether trials involving Xarelto that were initially postponed are set to get underway later this month. Defendant Johnson & Johnson and subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceutical, as well as plaintiffs in the cases, had requested that the trials be pushed back by a month originally.

“This is certainly not the first time that we’ve seen a postponement in these types of cases,” says a representative for www.xarelto-lawsuits.org. “There are a number of reasons why plaintiffs and defendants may request a postponement. In this case, it was because of the NBA All-Star Games initially and then they were pushed back again as attorneys attempted to get ready.”

The dates now are set in Louisiana for April 24 and May 30. The third trial will be heard in Mississippi with the fourth taking place in Texas. More than 15,000 cases to date have been consolidated. These are all focused on Xarelto, which was initially marketed to replace warfarin as an anticoagulant when it was determined that warfarin put patients at a higher risk of developing internal bleeding.

“It’s ironic if you think about it,” says the representative for Xarelto-lawsuits.org. “Xarelto was marketed as a replacement for a drug that was causing internal bleeding. These cases now all revolve around the fact that Xarelto itself causes internal hemorrhaging and unlike warfarin, there is no antidote yet for the bleeding caused by Xarelto.”

Claimants all state that Janssen Pharmaceutical along with Johnson & Johnson knew about the bleeding and failed to adequately warn consumers about the risks. Some cases are being filed by family members of patients who are now deceased due to internal hemorrhaging, their cases stating that they died as a direct result of taking Xarelto as a blood thinning agent.

No word has been heard about whether there will be yet another postponement in these bellwether trials, and they remain on the dockets to begin later in the month. Johnson & Johnson is facing a number of lawsuits based on product liability claims for a number of medications as well as various products that they have on the market.
