Xarelto Lawsuit Update: New Wrongful Death Lawsuits Being Filed

September 24, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports today on the rising number of wrongful death lawsuits being filed by victims of Xarelto. To read more specific details about these lawsuits, click here.

Xarelto, an anticoagulant manufactured by Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, was originally released onto the United States market in 2011 after receiving FDA approval to treat atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and to be used in patients who had recently undergone hip and knee replacement surgeries. The drug was subject to an intense marketing campaign and since then 11 million prescriptions have been written for the drug.

However, several studies link Xarelto to severe, uncontrollable internal bleeding and due to the injuries this internal bleeding can cause, many patients have been permanently injured or have died. In many cases, the estate and the family of the deceased have the right to bring forward a Xarelto wrongful death lawsuit against the blood thinner’s manufacturers.

Xarelto’s Dangerous Defects:

According to the filed lawsuits, Xarelto is exponentially more dangerous than other blood thinners on the market because it does not have an antidote to counteract its anticoagulant effects. If a patient is taking the traditional blood thinner Warfarin and suffers from an internal bleeding event, a doctor can administer vitamin K and the patient’s blood will clot again. If a patient suffers from an internal bleeding event and is taking Xarelto, there is no antidote that will stop the bleeding. This can lead to very serious injuries and in far too many cases, death.

Xarelto Wrongful Death Lawsuits:

There are over 1,000 lawsuits filed agasint the manufacturers of Xarelto in a federal multidistrict ligitation, MDL, out of the Eastern District of Louisiana. Many of these lawsuits are wrongful death lawsuits and allege that the manufacturers of Xarelto were aware of the dangers of the drug and put it to market anyway. A wrongful death lawsuit is brought by the spouse or immediate family of the deceased and can seek compensation for the following:

-Medical expenses from the deceased’s treatment

-Funeral and Burial Expenses

-Loss of earnings and financial support while the deceased was hospitalized and being treated

-Future loss of earnings due to death, especially if the deceased was the provider for their family.

“If you feel that you lost a loved one due to an internal bleeding incident that may have been cause by Xarelto, we strongly encourage you to contact our lawyers immediately.” Xarelto attorney Marc Goldich said, “Now that the MDL is formed we expect even more cases to come forward. The manufacturers of Xarelto should be brought to justice.”
