Xarelto Lawsuit: Woman Alleges That The Drug’s Manufacturers Didn’t Warn Of Dangers

June 07, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a plaintiffs’ allegations in a Texas lawsuit filed against the manufacturers of Xarelto, Bayer Healthcare and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Janssen is a subsidiary of corporate giant Johnson and Johnson. The plaintiffs in this particular case are a couple, who claim that Bayer and Janssen failed to warn patients and medical professionals of the dangerous risks related to the use of Xarelto, a blood-thinning drug.

Xarelto has been on the market for approximately 5 years and was very popular with patients since they had much more freedom and flexibility with the drug than with blood thinners used before its release. Today, however, the drug is immersed in controversy, with over 3,400 lawsuits having been filed. These cases are all grounded in very similar allegations. Specifically, these cases allege that the drug increased the risk for dangerous and uncontrollable bleeding in patients both internally and externally.

The female plaintiff in this particular case alleges to have been prescribed Xarelto to treat her atrial fibrillation (Afib) and to minimize the risk of stroke due to that medical condition related to her heart. She was also deemed to be more susceptible to the risk of stroke. She alleges that she had only used the drug for 5 months when she experienced a very sudden onset of life-threatening internal bleeding that has left her struggling with long-term medical issues.

This lawsuit initiated by the Texas couple was initially filed in the Eastern District of New York. However, since the decision made by the U.S. Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) to consolidate cases in Eastern Louisiana was handed down, this case was transferred to that multidistrict litigation (MDL) and was assigned number MDL 2592. Complaints against the drug continue to increase while the numerous plaintiffs involved in this MDL await their day in court.
