Zofran Birth Defect Lawsuit MDL To Be Held In Boston

November 13, 2015 – – ZofranLegal.com reports on recent misinformation that indicated the Zofran birth defect lawsuit multidistrict litigation was going to be held in Pennsylvania. This is not the case. The Zofran lawsuits included in the MDL will be overseen in Boston, Massachusetts. Since their recent consolidation, there has been a rapid rise in new claims alleging that Zofran, a powerful anti-nausea drug, can cause an increased risk of birth defects when exposed to developing babies in utero through their mothers.

Currently, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has chosen to send a total of 12 Zofran birth defect lawsuits to Boston, where they will be coordinated for pretrial proceedings. Additional statistics published by the JPML just 3 days after this decision was announced suggest that 3 other claims will be rapidly added to these MDL cases.

Outside of these details, there is not much information currently being made available to the public. Even the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts’ website has yet to be updated to show the Zofran MDL on its active multidistrict litigation list.

Over 100 new Zofran birth defect claims have been filed recently against manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline and others. These suits are not currently included in the Boston MDL. Court records indicate that a total of 70 Zofran lawsuits have been filed in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts as of November 11th of 2015. All Massachusetts claims, both the old and the new, are being overseen by Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV.

It is expected that as cases currently included in the Zofran MDL await trial, others will continue to surface. The attorneys at Monheit Law are working to ensure, in the meantime, that anyone who used Zofran while pregnant and subsequently gave birth to a child with defects has the opportunity to explore their full legal rights. These individuals and their children may be entitled to compensation. At this time, Monheit Law is offering them free consultations.
