Zofran Lawsuit Judge Moves To Allow Direct Filing In Multidistrict Litigation No. 2657

April 07, 2016 – – ZofranLegal.com reports on an order given by the Honorable F. Dennis Saylor IV, who is currently overseeing the lawsuits involved in Zofran MDL number 2657. This new order will help to simplify the typical lawsuit filing process for those looking to file and join the MDL. Judge Saylor IV has announced that potential plaintiffs who are interested in filing Zofran lawsuits of their own will now be able to do so directly into the MDL, skipping the typical process of filing in local federal courts and then transferring their lawsuit.

The MDL consolidation was ordered by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, and was possible because all of the filed lawsuits involved similar plaintiff allegations against the same defendant. The consolidation is intended to help fast-track the legal process by eliminating duplicative discovery and different rulings from multiple judges. It also helps to conserve time and finances for everyone involved.

The MDL lawsuits are being housed in a single Court in Boston, Massachusetts and currently number over 230 cases. Plaintiffs involved allege that fetal exposure to anti-nausea drug Zofran caused their children to be born with a range of severe and sometimes fatal defects. The defects most commonly noted in Zofran lawsuits are transposition of the greater vessels, atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect, kidney defects, clubfoot, respiratory distress, and cleft lip and palate. They have been filed against pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline.

This new court order is the 6th to have been announced by Judge Saylor, and plaintiffs involved anxiously await other order while Zofran lawsuit numbers continue to grow.
