Jeffrey Phillips Law Office Representing Daughter In Bisbee Wrongful Death Case

March 09, 2016 – – The Phillips Law Group in Phoenix, Arizona has announced that they will be representing Alicia Thompson in the wrongful death case of her father, Carlos Ramirez. Ramirez was shot and killed by a Bisbee, Arizona police officer, Robert Coronado, on April 22, 2015. Coronado, a 17 year veteran of the police force was not injured in the altercation.

In Report No. 15-05724, filed by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, a woman notified the Bisbee Police Department that the then 51 year old Carlos Ramirez had been banging on her windows in an aggressive manner, reportedly over a parking issue in the parking lot of the Bisbee Safeway.

Two officers from the police department responded to the store location, and deputies stated that Ramirez was armed with a knife. He also reportedly became disorderly when officers approached him. Further reports state that Ramirez was homeless and dealt with mental health issues. Ramirez was well-known around the Bisbee area.

“We feel that justice was not served in this case,” Jeffrey Phillips states. “Our goal is to help this family gain closure.”

Alicia Thompson is the oldest daughter of Ramirez, and has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Bisbee, seeking $10 million in damages.

“We do feel that we have a case,” states a representative from the law firm. “The officers were not harmed in any way, and we just feel that there was a better way to end this without Mr. Ramirez losing his life.”

Thompson, 21, filed a notice of claim with the city in September 2015, giving the city 60 days to respond. The lawsuit is now being prepared by the law firm in Phoenix, and Thompson is hoping that in addition to covering funeral expenses and psychological damages, this case could potentially urge police officers to use less drastic measures when attempting to subdue citizens in similar situations.
