NBC News Investigates E-Cigarette Explosion Occurrences Amid E-Cig Lawsuit Filing Increase
May 26, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an investigative news release from NBC exploring the cause of certain e-cigarette battery explosions. While many consumers switch from smoking traditional cigarettes to using e-cigarettes in an attempt to make a safe move to protect themselves, many now allege that these devices are dangerous in a quite different way. Users from across the country have stepped forward alleging that e-cigarette device batteries are blowing up, causing severe injuries and fires.
Alleged victims of e-cigarette explosions have reported suffering a variety of injuries, from second, and third-degree burns to missing teeth, fractured bones, and loss of eyesight. Additionally, they have reported house and car fires.
The NBC article interviews Doctor Anne Wagner of the University of Colorado Hospital Burn Center, where they have reportedly treated six patients who were severely injured by e-cigarette explosions since the start of the year. “We’re seeing deep third-degree burns and almost all of them require skin grafts and these grafts leave a significant scar,” she noted.
One of the patients treated at the UCH Burn Center earlier in 2016 was a 19-year-old boy when an e-cigarette device reportedly exploded in his pants pocket, causing a fire and serious burns on his thigh. Unfortunately, this young man is not the only victim. In California, a 17-year-old man reported suffering significant injuries to his mouth, teeth, and tongue when an e-cigarette he was using exploded. The explosion’s force is said to have knocked out several of his teeth, and to have caused a hole to form in his tongue.
