Connecticut Man Killed Working On Sewer Line, Spurs Response From Construction Accident Lawyer

June 27, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com Thomas Moverman recently commented on a tragic accident that occurred in New Haven, Connecticut, where a local man was fatally injured while working on a local sewer line. Attorney Moverman sends his sincere condolences to the family of the fallen victim, and regretfully, notes that incidents of this nature have grown in frequency at an alarming rate. Moverman hopes that this tragic death will serve as yet another example to federal regulators, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), and lawmakers that there is a need to increase construction safety rules and regulations in the near future.

A local news report from NBC Connecticut indicated that on June 20th, a local 55-year-old man was working at a construction site near 2 Boston Post Road when he was struck by a backhoe. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene as quickly as possible and transported the worker to a local hospital, where he perished as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. The scene of the accident was closed off to the public for several hours, local police and OSHA officials have been called in to investigate the accident.

Federal OSHA has indicated that nearly 900 construction workers sustained fatal injuries while on the job in 2014, making up over 20 % of all worker fatalities in the private industry in that year. Individuals being struck by an object, as was the case in the recent New Haven tragedy, was the third leading cause of death for construction workers in 2014, and is one of the four causes of death that make up construction’s ‘Fatal Four.’ The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicated that construction’s ‘Fatal Four’ made up nearly 60 % of construction worker deaths in 2014, and included fatal work injuries as a result of falls (359), electrocutions (74), along with being struck by objects (73), or caught between equipment (12).

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman admire the hard work that construction workers put in on a daily basis and believe that all individuals affected by the burden of construction accidents are entitled to extensive legal support and advice. Moverman has an impressive previous record representing construction accident victims, often times resulting in sizable financial compensation for clients. With Moverman’s counsel, the victim was awarded 2.6 million dollars in compensation for his damages.
