Texas Man Files IVC Filter Lawsuit Against Cook Medical For Gunther Tulip Device

July 01, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit that was recently filed in Texas by a man who received a removable IVC filter from Cook Medical. The lawsuit is part of MDL No. 2570 against Cook Medical which currently has 400 cases that claim that the company manufactured dangerous devices and didn’t warn patients about the risks. Other MDLs such as the one in Arizona involving C.R. Bard’s IVC filters have climbed in numbers as well.

The devices, which are cage-like mechanisms designed to catch blood clots before they reach the lungs, have been known to break apart or migrate from their original insertion points causing serious health risks. Perforation, embolizations, filter fracture and filter migration were among some of the issues cited in the 921 cases reported to the FDA between 2005 and 2010. Because of these issues, the FDA has since published a guidance for medical professionals suggesting that the devices should be removed immediately once the risk of pulmonary embolism decreases. The filters are usually implanted in patients who have suffered serious trauma and who are at an increased risk of blood clots. They are usually given to patients who are unable to take anticoagulant drugs.

While these case numbers are expected to grow, Banville Law is looking to assist those individuals who believe they have suffered significantly from the use of an IVC filter. Qualifying persons may be entitled to legal action and significant financial compensation. Banville Law has years of experience fighting large pharmaceutical companies who have put dangerous drugs or devices into the market. The firm strongly believes in leveling the playing field by pursuing justice for those who have been affected by dangerous devices or drugs.
