E-Cigarette Explosion Causes Car Fire, As E-Cig Explosion Lawsuit Cases Continue Growing In Number

July 01, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s attorney Marc Freund commented on a late-April Illinois e-cigarette explosion, that set 2 cars ablaze in a Walmart parking lot. Freund notes that the car-owner is very lucky to have not been in the vehicle at the time of the explosion. Attorney Freund notes that in previous cases where e-cigarettes exploded in vehicles, individuals have been severely injured, both while driving or parked.

A local Chicago news outlet WGNTV.com reported on the incident where local officials stated that an e-cigarette was the likely cause of a large car fire which occurred in a Chevy Trailblazer. Local Firefighters rushed to the scene, and expertly put out the Walmart parking lot car fire, but not before the fire spread to a second car causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Authorities at the scene in Oswego, discovered a heavily burned e-cigarette in the center console, supporting their belief that the device caused the “monster blaze.”

This e-cigarette explosion is the sole e-cigarette explosion that has occurred in Illinois to date and is one of 77 e-cig explosion cases that have been reported thus far in 2016. 2016’s current total of reported e-cigarette explosions nearly equals the total number of explosions from 2014 (47) and 2013 (38) combined. This sharp increase in e-cigarette explosion occurrences has raised questions among consumers regarding the safety of e-cigarettes, their chargers, and their lithium-ion batteries. FEMA previously indicated that in most e-cigarette explosion cases, the lithium-ion batteries are to blame, as they often overheat and overload with voltage.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman support the notion that retailers and manufacturers have a shared responsibility to provide fair warning to potential e-cigarette consumers. Marc Freund is currently offering all e-cigarette explosion victims access to a free legal consultation so that they may extensively evaluate their legal options. Freund notes that some victims may be entitled to financial compensation, however, all victims are encouraged to contact the law firm to explore their complete legal rights.
