Natural Hair The Movie is a Gift during Black History Month

Grind Over Matter Films launches the perfect film for black history month via kickstarter.

Dallas, TX – February 7 – Natural Hair The Movie is a social commentary about the current state of black hair in America. The movie chronicles the journey of natural women and documents the positive and negative responses from family, partners, employers, and the media.

To kick off Black History Month, Grind Over Matter Films launched a Kickstarter page February 1st of 2017 for Natural Hair the Movie in order to allow fans to contribute to the film with a pledge. “The response has been awesome! We are really gaining momentum as we discover more and more women going through the same struggles across the country. We really hope to educate and inspire young girls to love themselves by promoting healthy, natural beauty,” said Ashanti Titus, the Executive Producer.

Reginald Titus Jr., the director of the film, said, “I still remember when my wife, Ashanti, chopped all of her hair off in 2009. I supported her through the process even as certain family members gave her a hard time about it. My initial thoughts were, ‘We should be documenting this,’ but that was more of a fleeing thought and not a solid concept. The real concept for the movie began in 2013, when Ashanti mentioned the idea of a documentary during the company’s weekly producer meeting. We all liked the idea, but the timing was off because we were wrapping up a film that would premiere at the Dallas Angelika Theater, also we were in preproduction for our next film for 2014. We never lost sight of her idea and we decided to begin principal photography in November of 2015. We have a small team, but we are each contributing to make this movie the best it can be. We have Casey G. Smith as Producer, Michael Grayson as Director of Photography, A.D. Johnson as Music Supervisor, Pablo De Leon as Producer, London Williams as Producer, and Jeremy Stewart with branding. Our goal is to get this positive message in front of the right audiences globally, and KickStarter is the perfect platform for us to collaborate with the people that want to be involved.”
