Voice Search to Become a Game Changer in E-Commerce, Augusto Beato Reminds Retailers
September 26, 2018 – – Voice search will soon be the game changer in e-commerce based on a recent study that showed an increasing number of Americans using the technology to make purchases, insists Augusto Beato, CEO of Portland SEO.
Beato pointed out that a recent study by Voicebot.ai revealed that 47.3 million Americans, or nearly one in five, now have access to a smart speaker with 57 percent having made purchases using that speaker.

In January 2018 there were an estimated 1 billion voice searches. That is expected to drastically increase if the commonly repeated prediction that, by 2020, half of all searches will be made by voice is realized.
Right now, voice search sometimes mishears us, or it misinterprets more complex strings of words. But the technology is expected to improve, particularly about the accuracy of word recognition, and ability to parse more complex queries as Google and other search engines have been working on improving the programming and machine learning that pick up speech patterns.
Furthermore, Gartner forecasts that by 2020 around 30 percent of searches will be made without a screen.
“Voice and gesture devices will become more mainstream, and retailers should be geared toward adapting these technologies,” Beato asserts. “As more consumers make it a habit of asking their smart speakers for purchase suggestions, the brands that get onboard early are the brands that get recommendations.”
