ELTEC Now Offering High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK)

New pedestrian crosswalk unit helps reduce costs and increase safety.

NOVEMBER 2, 2018 – The team at ELTEC has just announced the launch of the HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk).

ELTEC has been an industry leader in traffic control signs and signals for more than 50 years. Now, they are helping increase safety in areas where MUTCD might not necessarily require a signal yet a signal may be needed.

While traffic signals might not always be required under MUTCD standards, traffic conditions can at times be hazardous to pedestrians. With the pedestrian activated HAWK high intensity activated crosswalk, increased safety is offered at a competitive price. With controls located on a pole mounted cabinet, as opposed to the traditional intersection controller, the cost is much less than standard such solutions.

With a pedestrian hybrid high intensity activated traffic crosswalk signal, a beacon is used to warn and control motorists at marked and un-signalized crosswalks for assisting pedestrians across busy streets.

The ELTEC HAWK is solar powered and leverages Mikros EIC (ELTEC Intelligent Controller) with a built-in conflict monitor. This means that the HAWK is a comprehensive, off-the-grid, and solar-powered wireless pedestrian hybrid traffic controller. In addition, AC systems are available.

With a solar-powered option, power interruptions are eliminated, as well as the need for an electrical contractor. The HAWK’s high-efficiency self-cleaning solar panels are backed by a 20-year warranty, and the no-maintenance absorbed glass mat battery is backed by a 5-year pro-rated warranty.

With its high efficiency and low-power components, the HAWK’s Mikros EIC electrical consumption is rated at 2 watts, and its beacons use no more than 4 watts of energy each. With the pedestrian “Don’t Walk/Walk” signal flashing continuously, the energy use is at less than 4 watts. When the pedestrian head and countdown timer operate around the clock, energy consumption is at less than 5 watts.

According to ELTEC, the HAWK’s benefits are that it can be personalized and tailored to project requirements. In addition, its wireless communication and control are efficient, and hardwiring can also be done.

The HAWK is backed by a 25-month warranty and meets all MUTCD standards. More information about the HAWK can be found at https://elteccorp.com/warning_systems/high-intensity-activated-crosswalk/.
