168 pounds of trash removed from New Jersey’s Liberty State Park on World Ocean’s Day
Garbo Grabber hosts and sponsors clean-up event with local and global Environmental goals in mind

Jersey City, New Jersey (June 8, 2019) World Ocean’s Day is a global celebration to honor our planet’s oceans and a time to raise awareness about the protection and conservation of these vast, uniting bodies of water. Featuring their proprietary Trash Baggers, reachers and picks, Garbo Grabber sponsored a local clean-up event at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey with BeNatural. Over 25 volunteers successfully retrieved 168 pounds of trash that would have otherwise wreaked havoc on the environment and negatively impacted both humans and wildlife.
“The immediate goal is to keep our local livable spaces free from litter, which is so important for the health and vitality of our communities” shared Ashley Lionetti, owner of Garbo Grabber. “However, the greater, more long-term goal is the well-being of our planet.”
Through Garbo Grabber’s efforts and the dedication of their volunteers, fewer cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic straws, plastic bottles and tops, and aluminum cans will pollute this local park and eventually make their way into the water systems. “It’s summertime. We’ve all emerged from our collective hibernation and returned to local parks and beaches. But who can have fun in a place filled with trash?” said clean-up volunteer Mary Ann Weaver. “Participating in my first clean-up on World Ocean’s Day is, for me, about having a nice outdoor space to enjoy, but I know this is bigger than us, too. It was a great experience – who would have ever thought picking-up trash could be enjoyable,” Weaver laughs.
As the breeze blew off the bay, the volunteers’ clean-up bags remained secure and stable thanks to Garbo Grabber’s Trash Bagger. “Our products make such a difference in the way volunteers pick-up trash,” reports Chris Fitzpatrick, an employee of Garbo Grabber. “With our Trash Bagger, there is no need to touch any garbage with your hands and trash stays in the bag where it belongs. Several other organized clean-ups around the United States, including those hosted by Nestle Waters, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, and Miss Earth, experienced similar incredible results – hundreds of pounds of trash retrieved in just a few short hours thanks to Garbo Grabber’s Trash Baggers, reachers and picks. “It’s awesome to see other sponsored groups using our products all around the country. No matter if its #worldoceansday or any other day, the Trash Bagger has made such a difference in the way people pick up trash,” said Lionetti. “Any clean-up is a good one, but we want to have more, happier volunteers who want to participate again and again because it was such an easy, rewarding experience.
