New Moon Extension Enables Bitcoin Payment on Amazon

October 30, 2019 – – Regular internet travelers who buy online have probably already come across Sunsella. They are well known as an online retail company that not only sells direct to customers through their own website but also has a strong presence on Amazon.

Sunsella is a company that is extremely interested in modern technology and what it can do for both retailers and customers. As such, they were very excited to learn about a brand-new browser extension being developed by a company called Moon.

Although already making a name for themselves within technology circles, they are still relatively unknown within the mainstream media and they are not a household name. This is likely to change as more and more people become interested in their offering.

Moon is a three-person startup company that has come up with a brilliant new idea to enable payment on Amazon using Bitcoin. Most people have now heard about Bitcoin but may not be too clear on what it is. Each Bitcoin is basically a computer file and is stored in a digital wallet which could be on a cell phone, or computer. Bitcoin does not use the conventional banking system at all.

People can send Bitcoins (or a fraction of one) to a digital wallet or they can send Bitcoins from it to other people. Every single transaction is stored in a public list called a blockchain.

A blockchain is a public record of each and every transaction that is made and it cannot be edited by anyone. It’s this very property that many think makes it superior to the current banking system which can be edited and hence more open to fraud.

Amazon, like many other retail giants, has not yet endorsed payment on their websites using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the major player in digital currency, so this is what Moon is concentrating on.

What their browser extension does is enable the use of a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin for payment at checkout on Amazon. The extension automatically recognizes the Amazon checkout page. It will then insert Moon’s own payment widget and the buyer can see how much it will cost in cryptocurrency.

Right now, payment can be made with any bitcoin wallet that works with either the Lightning Network or Coinbase. It’s fast and remarkably easy to use for anyone who is into cryptocurrency and digital wallets.

Paying with Moon in this way automatically converts cryptocurrencies and puts money into the buyer’s Amazon account which means it will pay with the newly available Amazon balance. Moon does not charge any additional fees.

Jeremy Bowden who works in the computer industry as a software engineer had this to say: “Technology is changing at an incredibly fast pace and retailers aren’t keeping up – not even the big e-retailers.” He went on to say “Moon’s browser extension is definitely a step in the right direction as it will let me use my digital wallet and pay with Bitcoin on Amazon. I am really excited by this development.”

Sunsella, too, is pleased by Moon’s development of a simple-to-use browser extension and will be keeping a close eye on its development and implementation. A Sunsella spokesperson said, “We see this as just the beginning of a very exciting future and hopefully, it will be expanded and made available for companies other than Amazon.”

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin have now established themselves as viable alternatives to conventional banking. As such, they will probably begin to feature more and more as a payment method at checkout. It may be a slower than desired process for many and it will probably take longer than necessary. Until that changes there is Moon.

Moon’s new extension is currently available for Google Chrome, Brave (a Chromium-based browser), and Opera. The extensions are available to users in the U.S. and Canada at present, but Moon is hoping to expand it to customers in Europe.
