Dr. Kishore Tipirneni finally completed the launch of “New Eden” in Kindle, paperback and Audible. In this book, Dr. Tipirneni taps on his background in medicine and computer programming to create a hard science fiction novel that is guaranteed to ignite your interest in exploring the definition of life.

After completing his orthopaedic residency in Detroit in 1996, Dr. Tipirneni used his childhood love of computer programming to develop a method of digitally sending x-rays. His revolutionary technology streamlined the process of diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries. Dr. Tipirneni’s company was acquired by Stryker Medical in 2004. He currently holds several patents for his innovative medical technology and software.

“New Eden” was inspired by Dr. Tipirneni’s revelation about the interrelated nature of living organisms and information systems. As an embryo turns into a baby and then subsequently a full-grown adult, we tend to simplistically look at it as a single life. However an embryo is unique compared to other bundles of cells. An embryo might not contain much life in the form of information, but it contains all of the infinite possibilities of growing into an independent lifeform. Dr. Tipirneni explores the possibility that life may not be a fixed quantity but is dynamic and a question of potential.

“Imagine the wood frog that freezes in the winter, then unfreezes in summer. Is the frozen frog considered dead since it’s not moving?” asked Dr Tipirneni. He added, “Perhaps an alternative way to define life is a purposeful arrangement and composition of molecules which defines the entity. This arrangement can be represented as information, therefore life itself is simply just information. The frozen frog contains life because it still contains the specific arrangement and information that defines the frog, but it is not living because it is not performing the function for which it’s purposed. When the frog thaws and moves around, the frog contains life and is now living.”

New Eden follows physicist Joshua Andrews and journalist Rachael Miller as they attempt to understand a highly advanced alien race with the power to create any creature by coding its DNA. When reading the book, readers will be sure to challenge their own beliefs about life and information. These are concepts that impact any individual as we continually digitize our lives and push the boundaries of science in areas such as cryotherapy. The book is suited to anyone living in today’s digital age and is not limited to the science fiction audience.

New Eden is Dr. Tipirneni’s first novel. Due to his expertise in both the medical and computer science fields, he is uniquely positioned to intertwine such disparate subjects to unravel the complex moral questions surrounding life.
