Eco Onyx Cleaning, personal home care and lifestyle support company founded by a black woman and immigrant, Trezelle Morgain, has reframed its services and created a new foundation post-Covid. After over three years in business, Eco Onyx Cleaning has taken the advice and lived experiences of its clients to build an entire business geared towards creating customized services to meet their clients where they need them most. This is why she makes sure to note that she doesn’t want herself or her staff to be connected to the word “maid”, due to its insensitive, demeaning and destructive history. She explains: “As a black and immigrant woman, I am all too aware of the history of the word “maid.” The word conjures up images of forced servitude and subservient roles. It’s a reminder of a time when women of color were seen as nothing more than property. I refuse to be associated with that word.”

In addition to providing financial stability for herself and her family, Trezelle’s business has also allowed her to give back to her community in a meaningful way. As a result, she is changing the face of entrepreneurship by showing others that it is possible to create the life of their dreams, no matter what their circumstances may be. 

Trezelle’s recent ADHD diagnosis has helped her gain a new perspective on helping her disabled and senior clients: “When I was diagnosed with ADHD, it was a relief to finally understand why I had always felt different. For years, I had struggled to focus and stay on task, and I often felt like I was running on a hamster wheel. Once I started treatment for ADHD, however, I began to view it as a strength. This new perspective led me to put a special focus on providing services to disabled and senior clients. I’m dedicated to helping others who are facing challenges similar to those that I have faced, and my unique perspective gives me a special connection to my clients.”
