Community Dog Training Facility Helps Rescue Dogs Prepare For Their Forever Homes With Free Seminars
Local dog training facility offers free seminars and workshops for rescue volunteers to help them prepare dogs for adoption so they can find their forever homes.
Snohomish, Washington, United States – March 20, 2024 —
Snohomish, WA – A lot of work goes into rescuing dogs and putting them up for adoption. Rescue volunteers perform all the screening, find excited adopters, and feel as though they’ve found the perfect home for a special dog. Unfortunately, a growing number of rescue dogs are being returned to shelters. A Canine Experience aims to end this with its free dog fostering seminars and workshops.
The first seminar of the year took place on February 17th, 2024 from 12 pm to 5 pm in Snohomish, WA. It was solely for individuals affiliated with rescue organizations and covered everything to help teach rescue volunteers how to prepare pups for adoption. The main aim of this seminar – and future ones like it – is to reduce the number of returns and get more dogs ready for their forever homes. This will lead to a higher adoption success rate – which is excellent news for dogs, adopters, and volunteers.
A Free Seminar Covering A Host Of Dog Fostering Topics
At around five hours long, this dog fostering seminar offered a deep dive into looking after rescue dogs. Many dogs are abandoned or poorly treated, meaning they come to rescue shelters feeling incredibly scared. When their confidence isn’t built up – or they don’t get used to being around humans – this leads to issues during the adoption process.
Families think they’ve found the perfect dog, only to discover they’re very timid and afraid. Some dogs simply struggle to fit into their new surroundings, which is why families think returning them is for the best. The seminar aimed to tackle this problem and help rescue dogs go from scared to prepared. It outlined a host of teaching points to assist dogs with getting used to being around people and settling into new surroundings.
A Canine Experience left plenty of time for discussions at the end of the event, letting participants ask as many questions as they liked. The core topics covered across the five-hour seminar were:
- Purpose of a foster home
- What most forever homes want
- What a dog needs when arriving at a new home
- The Do’s and Don’ts of bringing home a new foster dog
- Safety when transporting
- The responsibilities of a good leader
- Reading body language
- Warning signs of aggression
- Types of dog aggression
- Introducing a dog to potential adopters
- Six basic skills every foster dog should be taught
- Tricks and tips for fostering dogs
- How to help rescue staff and volunteers
It was all built around the idea of getting more dogs successfully adopted to their forever homes.
A Canine Experience has run many seminars and workshops like this in the past and is committed to providing more in the future. A new seminar for dog rescues and foster volunteers is already in the works, focusing on “Utilizing Resources to Save More Dogs’ Lives”.
