Northridge Cosmetic and Family Dentist, David Shannon, DDS, Launches Holiday Food Drive for 2015
Dr. David Shannon, Northridge cosmetic and family dentist, will donate professional fees and accept non-perishable food donations during his annual campaign to feed the hungry in his San Fernando Valley community.

As is his practice every year, Northridge cosmetic and family dentist, Dr. David Shannon has just launched his annual Holiday Food Drive to feed the hungry and homeless this season. Throughout the month of November, Dr. Shannon’s office will be accepting donations of canned goods and other non-perishable foods. On December 4, 2015 he will deliver all donated food to the SOVA Community Food and Resource Program in Van Nuys, CA.
SOVA maintains three comprehensive service centers in the Los Angeles area, each with a food pantry staffed by a manager, an assistant manager and trained volunteers. The sites are colorful, welcoming and comfortable environments, where priority is placed on respecting the dignity and individuality of all who seek their help. Pantries are stocked with high quality, nutritious canned and packaged foods, bakery products and fresh produce. The SOVA pantries provide a 5 day supply of free groceries and personal hygiene products (when needed) for each family member.
In addition to the food drive for SOVA, during the month of November, Dr. David Shannon will be offering a thorough dental exam, including x-rays and a complete cleaning for only $39. All proceeds from these visits during November will be donated in full to MEND in Pacoima, CA to help feed those in need. You may also get a complete dental exam, x-rays and cleaning for two people for only $69. Again, all proceeds will be given to MEND.
With dignity and respect, powered by volunteers, MEND’s mission is to break the bonds of poverty by providing basic human needs and a pathway to self-reliance. MEND’s emergency food bank is unique in that it is the largest in Los Angeles providing direct distribution to clients in need, and one of the largest in the state of California. The food bank distributes more than a quarter of a million pounds of food a month both onsite and through its community outreach, helping to feed nearly 25,000 people every month.
“I’m hoping that many will see this as an opportunity to do something good for their own dental health while, at the same time, helping to feed those less fortunate,” said Dr. Shannon from his Northridge, California office. “By taking advantage of the $69 offer, they can treat themselves and a family member or friend to a much needed service while helping others in the community. We like to think this is a ‘win-win’ for all involved.”
Dr. Shannon makes this offer available each year at this time and sees a marked rise in participation every year. He adds, “There are a limited number of openings available in the month of November, so it’s important for people to call and make an appointment as soon as possible. We want to accommodate as many as possible and this will result in the most good being done for the people at MEND.”
