Zofran Lawsuits Name 5 Lawyers To Lead Birth Defect MDL
December 10, 2015 – – ZofranLegal.com reports that lawsuits alleging anti-nausea drug Zofran can cause birth defects to babies exposed to it while growing in the womb have been consolidated to form multidistrict litigation 2657 in Boston, Massachusetts. As these lawsuits near 200 in number, presiding Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV has appointed 5 attorneys who will lead the plaintiffs’ steering committee. Two of these experienced attorneys are connected to ZofranLegal.com and have worked for months now with Michael Monheit in order to investigate and assist in filing birth defect complaints against Zofran manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline.
Judge Saylor recently noted his first five official court orders for the Zofran birth defect MDL. Through these orders, he successfully set up a master list for court filings to follow, and indicated that attorneys would be able to call in order to participate in status conferences, rather than requiring that they appear in person during each meeting. During this time, he also addressed the defendant in the cases, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, letting them know that at this time, they did not have to answer all filed complaints until a more streamlined process is established by the court.
Plaintiffs involved in the MDL all synonymously link Zofran exposure in fetuses to a range of birth defects, including clubfoot, cleft lip and palate, respiratory defects, tetralogy of fallot, transposition of the greater vessels, kidney defects, atrial septal defect, and ventricular septal defect. Several of the lawsuits allege that the Zofran-caused defects were fatal, while others indicated that they required multiple surgeries.
Attorneys appointed to lead the Zofran MDL are: Elizabeth Graham, Esq., Robert K. Jenner, Esq., Kimberly Dougherty, Esq., Kimberly Barone Baden, Esq., and Tobias Millrood, Esq. These attorneys bring a mixture of many years of professional experience and a passion for the rights of their clients to the table.
As these cases await trial, those involved expect that others will continue to be filed. Zofran has been prescribed “off-label” to an estimated 1 million pregnant women within the last year. These prescriptions are considered “off-label” due to the fact that, surprisingly, Zofran was never FDA-approved to treat expectant mothers or tested for safety on this consumer group.
The attorneys at Monheit Law are working to ensure that all families affected by Zofran are able to fully explore their legal rights. These fathers, mothers, and children may be entitled to significant compensation. Those who have been prescribed Zofran while pregnant and who have subsequently given birth to an infant with defects are offered free legal consultations from Monheit Law.
