Cloud Storage: JustCloud Announces Unlimited Storage Plan For Unhappy Microsoft OneDrive Users
December 15, 2015 – – Many Microsoft OneDrive account owners are disappointed to see that Microsoft is limiting their cloud storage. The company’s decision to reduce free storage amounts and the way this decision was communicated has driven customers to look for alternative online cloud storage providers.
A fast growing company JustCloud now announces its own unlimited cloud storage plan.
In November, Microsoft declared that the 15GB of free storage they have been offering was being reduced to 5GB and that the unlimited OneDrive cloud storage plan for Office 365 consumers will be ended. This indicates that Microsoft is going exactly in the opposite direction as compared to what they promised last year, when the company announced that its Office 365 subscribers would get unlimited OneDrive storage. Many OneDrive users were not only annoyed by the dramatic change itself, but also by the way that Microsoft explained the need for this change by putting all the blame on users for excessive use.
After the announcement, around 70,000 disappointed users complained about Microsoft’s changes to its policy in a OneDrive UserVoice (https://onedrive.uservoice.com/forums/262982-onedrive/suggestions/10524099-give-us-back-our-storage) post. This backlash from the OneDrive users forced Microsoft to apologise and to restore some of the data allowances. Microsoft isn’t changing its plans to remove unlimited cloud storage, but the company unwillingly agreed to allow OneDrive users to keep their existing 15GB of free cloud storage and the 15GB of camera roll bonus. Still, OneDrive users have to be aware of the offer, as they need to manually opt-in to keep their storage, and they need to do it before the end of January, 2016. Also, the new offer will try to sign the customers up for spam emails. By selecting the offer, customers agree “to receive promotional emails from OneDrive”. Although it is said that there is an option to unsubscribe, it is not exactly clear how it can be done.
In the light of the recent changes in Microsoft’s policy and the failure to communicate them to the customers, many people interested in unlimited cloud storage are considering the alternatives like JustCloud to OneDrive.
