Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Highlight 4 Years Without An Available Antidote
December 15, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on Xarelto plaintiffs who indicate that the drug has now been on the market for 4 years without an antidote. They allege that this shows dangerous negligence on the part of manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson). The Xarelto bleeding lawsuits are now less than one month away from bellwether trial selection, and have been consolidated in the Eastern District of Louisiana under multidistrict litigation number 2592. They are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon.
According to plaintiffs involved in the lawsuits, the lack of antidote is a major issue. If someone using Xarelto becomes injured and bleeds, physicians will be unable to clot their blood. In these instances, the physicians have to resort to extreme life-saving tactics such as surgery or blood transfusions. A major source of contention, however, is that more traditional blood thinners do have an available antidote in vitamin K. When patients using traditional blood thinners begin to bleed, they can be treated with vitamin K and it will reverse the effects of the drug and clot their blood. This one detail can mean the difference between life and death.
Xarelto was originally released to market and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011. It was intended as a treatment to prevent deep vein thrombosis for patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgeries. Several months later, it was also approved to treat patients suffering from atrial fibrillation. When Xarelto initially came onto the market, it was regarded as a revolutionary new blood thinner due to the fact that it did not require regular monitoring or a special diet. Today, instead, Xarelto is widely considered one of the most dangerous blood thinners on the market, and is the topic of over 2,200 federal lawsuits.
Despite the continuing surge of lawsuits, however, Xarelto has remained at the top of the most commonly used blood thinners. Plaintiffs involved in today’s lawsuits indicate that they were never made aware of the significant dangers associated with the drug, and would have chosen an alternative blood thinner if they were.
As these lawsuits await trial, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to ensure that everyone affected by the drug will have the opportunity to explore their legal rights. Those who suffered adverse health effects after using the blood-thinner may be entitled to significant compensation. Attorney Osborne is offering free legal consultations for these individuals.
