AndroGel Lawsuits: Alabama Man Suffers DVT

October 14, 2015 – – Banville Law reports on a story behind one of the couples involved in the AndroGel lawsuits. This couple, from Alabama, is suing both AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories Inc., manufacturers of testosterone gel AndroGel.

The couple detailed that the husband was prescribed AndroGel toward the end of November to combat symptoms caused by lowering testosterone levels. Within just 3 months of taking the drug, the man started to experience swelling and pain in his feet, groin, and legs.

After visiting the family doctor to evaluate this issue, the plaintiff was sent to a local hospital for further examination. The hospital eventually diagnosed him with deep vein thrombosis or DVT.

According to the Mayo Clinic, deep vein thrombosis occurs when one or more of your deep body veins (typically located in the legs,) develops a blood clot. It generally causes pain and swelling, but can sometimes occur without any symptoms. The condition is considered a serious one, due to the fact that blood clots could break loose and lodge in the lungs, blocking blood flow and causing a pulmonary embolism.

Over the following year, the plaintiff experienced four blood clots, in the months of February, May, August, and December. Additionally, in October of the same year, he suffered from an ocular stroke. Since beginning AndroGel testosterone treatments, the man experienced blood clots, stroke, and side effects of that stroke, including permanent vision loss. In fact, he has now been declared legally blind.

The man alleges that defendants AbbVie and Abbott intentionally and deceptively misrepresented AndroGel, neglected to properly warn about its potential side effects on the packaging, and that their drug caused the health issues that were suffered. He is suing for both past and future medical expenses, lost wages from time off of work, and pain and suffering.

AndroGel is a testosterone gel that is applied to the skin on the upper arm and shoulder areas in order to combat lowering testosterone levels in men. It is absorbed through the skin and enters into the bloodstream. The FDA approved the drug to treat hypogonadism, a condition where men have a significantly low level of testosterone, however, it is allegedly also being prescribed to men who suffer from normal and natural lowering levels of testosterone due to aging

If you or a loved one have experienced adverse side effects after using AndroGel or a similar low testosterone drug, you may be entitled to compensation.
