Anti Ragging Campaign held at KCG College of Technology
Dr. C Sylendra Babu, IPS, addresses students on the ill effects of Ragging and its consequences
August 2015 – KCG College of Technology recently launched an anti Ragging Campaign at their college among its student community. The students were addressed by Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, IPS (Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security Group, Tamilnadu) who served as the chief guest of the event. Dr. Sylendra Babu highlighted the importance of education and imparting leadership qualities among the students. He also spoke about the forms, consequences and punishment for ragging offences.
The students were inspired and motivated by his words. The principal and vice principal further emphasised the importance of a ragging free campus reminding the seniors that their juniors were a part of the same student community and they were to be welcomed. Their words were received well by the 800 students in attendance who pledged that they would not be involved in ragging and to prove it, they signed a statement to the same effect. A tree plantation event was also organized as part of the campaign.
Following this, 30 students, including 20 NCC cadets, and 10 members of the staff staged a rally to show the public their commitment to the cause. The students walked a distance of about 3 km from the college in the Karapakkam area. The rally drew the attention of the people there with motorists slowing down and even showing signs of approval of the students’ actions.
Ragging has proved to be a menace to junior students in colleges across the nation. Even though it is a punishable act, the practice is still prevalent. The only way to put a stop to ragging is by ensuring that the students are made aware of its effects. This is why the positive response from the students is so encouraging and that’s also why KCG College of Technology truly is a ragging free campus.
